An interesting article dropped into my Facebook newfeed a couple of days ago that had been saying a lot about my feelings for the vote on Brexit The problem with the English: England doesn’t want to be just another member of a team
It’s a bit hard on the ‘English’ but is expresses beautifully what I believe to be a lot of the emotional reasons for the vote to leave the EU. Ever since we joined the EU there has been a torrent of non-stories about how the ‘Faceless Brussels Bureaucrats ‘ are obliging Britain to put into place ludicrous laws like straight bananas and ‘Winterval ‘ when they did nothing of the sort. What the Brexit vote showed me is that a lot of those who lead the Leave campaign were harking back to our Imperial past and that struck a chord, especially with the older generation.
In this article, I am not going to argue the point for or against the vote and what is happening in a World Wide basis whether it is good or bad. Actually for me, it just is, it has to be dealt with on personal levels.
We are still going through the aftershock of the transits that heralded Financial crash in 2007/8 and all the revolutionary activity in the Middle East, (erroneously called the Arab Spring) added to and exacerbated by the Blair and Bush governments. Uranus and Pluto have been tripping the light fantastic in a square dance, sometimes joined by Jupiter, that really has only just finished, and we are still getting the fallout from it. That is what most of the mundane astrologers will have been concentrating on to explain what is happening.
However, there is something more subtle going on in the background and this is the dying centuries of what has been known as the Age of Pisces. There are lots of good articles on the internet to explain the Great Ages and what they are, so I won’t go into details, but around 2500 years ago has been called the Axial Age which saw the rise in things like Philosophy and Guru lead religions. Think of the rise in things like Christianity, Islam, Buddhism – all off shoots of previous spiritual paths and practice and all have named Spiritual leaders. They are also about the Pisces ideal of sacrifice and surrender. More currently, with the rise of the mass media and the internet, we have the celebrity culture and are following of other leaders, some of who are less than worthy.
Those who have felt that they have been in the position of leadership in the past are now feeling the loss of that power and recognition, so they bring to the fore, those people who promise to get it all back for them, who promise them a voice. You only have to look at the promises of the successful campaigns, Give us our country back, Make America great again. Thing is, we never lost our country, America has been great for centuries and still is. It depends on your point of view, and what other people are telling you, but these are empty promises because a) they were never lost in the first place and b) if they were, there is no simple way of bringing them back, if there ever was one.
Uranus’ message of ‘be careful of what you wish for’ and Pluto bringing up all that collective unconscious resentment is showing us one of the death throes of the Piscean age. We are entering another Axial age, hopefully one that promises a more socially minded mindset that is instilled with personal responsibility.
In one of my talks we look at how the Sun Sign characteristics can be described within the seasons. Aquarius people are born at a point of the year where, in times before supermarkets and electricity, the food stashed away during Autumn would have been dwindling. Aquarians automatically understand the need for collective action for as many members of the tribe to survive would have been even more important. There is also a pragmatic side of this, where the fear of death was no so prevalent and when the old realised that their time was over they would decide on a good day to die. It’s no coincidence that there are still more elderly deaths during this time, even though most have the food, shelter and medical intervention that our ancestors didn’t
More than ever, with the dwindling of global resources and the expansion of the population we need that collective action and it needs to be worldwide. I believe that this time will show us that following my leader is no longer cutting the mustard any more, no one person has the answers or can solve the problems. We all have to take responsibility for our part, use less, give more because our own and our children’s survival depends on it.
I will be shuffling off this mortal coil long before the Age of Aquarius kicks in and I don’t know if I am relieved or saddened, I would like to see this New Age, but perhaps the Pisces wisdom and sense of survival will kick in sooner and the corporate world will realise there is money to be made in developing a sustainable future before I go. I hope so.
